The Sacramento Ballet
The Sacramento Ballet
Through the vision and leadership of Artistic Directors Ron Cunningham and Carinne Binda, the Sacramento Ballet has enjoyed substantial success and is widely recognized as a major leading arts organization in Sacramento. They have successfully chosen ballets that balance public appeal with works that stretch and develop the artistic capabilities of the dancers. The Sacramento Ballet is well known for Cunningham’s world premieres of such works as Carmina Burana, The Rite of Spring, Bolero, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream as it is for his classics, including The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, A Streetcar Named Desire and Hamlet. The Ballet’s audience has had the opportunity to experience a vast repertoire, including works by Septime Webre, David Parsons, Kathryn Posin, Agnes de Mille, Glen Tetley, Val Caniparoli,Trey McIntyre and Twyla Tharp. In 20 seasons, the Ballet has added 15 full-length ballets, 18 Balanchine masterworks, 40 Sacramento premieres, and 38 world premieres. The company is highly regarded as a cultural asset to the community and consistently receives outstanding reviews for its artistic quality.
In addition, the company is committed to various community outreach projects, including Barbara Crockett Sends a Child to the Ballet, which makes sure children in our community have the chance to experience this worldwide form of expression and reach beyond what they ever thought possible. Send a Child to the Ballet often gives children their first experience at a live performance. This experience broadens their perspective of the world and enables them to engage in a cultural event they would otherwise be unable to afford. Last year, we sent more than 1,700 children to the ballet through 34 different social service groups and schools.
Community Outreach recipients include Boys and Girls Club of Sacramento, Children’s Receiving Home, Mustard Seed School, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, and many more.
